Climbing on Cayman Brac

Rock Climbing on an unspoiled tropical island

About Us December 16, 2023

Hi there!

We are Matt Arsenault and Eileen Keating. We purchased Bluff View in 2023 from the long-time Cayman Brac climbing ambassador John Byrnes and have been visiting the Brac since 2015. We are stoked to now get to call it our home away from home and would love to share our piece of paradise with you.

Matt started rock climbing in 2000 on the cliffs of eastern Maine and in Acadia National Park and has climbed throughout the United States. His favorite climbs on Cayman Brac include “Throwing the Tortuga”, “Out of Africa”, “Boom”, “Dixon’s Delight”, “Flying the Colors”, and “The Legend of Big Black Dick”. When not climbing or diving, Matt is also a passionate botanist and ecologist and loves exploring the island habitats in search of the endemic flora and fauna.

Eileen is also an active yoga practitioner, an amateur photographer, and has a borderline obsession with houseplants and horticultural curiosities. She enjoys paddling, camping and in downtime will knit or embroider fun pieces. She also has a serious issue when it comes to mushrooms, even going so far as to name a pet after a type of mushroom.

Both Matt and Eileen received their scuba certification in 2014 on the island of Saba and are both avid divers, having done nearly 100 dives on Cayman Brac. Eileen’s favorite dive sites on the Brac include Radar Reef, Lynne’s Reef, Sylvia’s Reef, and Handcuff Reef. Matt’s favorite sites are the Wilderness Wall, West & East Chute, and Sylvia’s Reef. He loves the deeper wall dives and is amazed by the sheer drop that the Cayman Trench has to offer.

Our year-round residence is in central Maine with our two quirky house cats, Poly-Purr (named after the Polypore mushroom) and Vera (named after the Aloe Vera plant so that Matt could say A-loe to Vera every morning). We enjoy spending our free time exploring the remote woods and waters of the beautiful Pine Tree State and escaping to the quietness that the Maine woods has to offer.

Thank you for taking the time to peruse our site and read all about us. We hope to hear from you soon!
